We are mentoring 25 teenagers from a church at Umlazi south of Durban - the purpose of our organization is to instill Christian values to the young ones and to stimulate them to discover themselves at a young age.
Laziness is taking over our kids - they are much dependant on technology. They are of the perception that without technology there is no life. They do not believe that they can use their hands to craft or produce something. Also, the South African 21st-century mentality is that without a university qualification there is no decent life; yet on the other hand, the university education is very expensive and not every citizen can afford it and also with the qualification there are no job guarantees.
Our major goal is to teach kids survival skills; handwork, and humility - we want to teach them to be productive at a young age, to see themselves as employers instead of being employees.
We are planning our first camping trip in 2018 where we are hoping to learn some of these skills - the program will include amongst other things charity work and leadership training.
The purpose of this request is to sponsor some of those kids who are coming from disadvantaged families that cannot afford the camp. Camp fees for 2 nights is R850 incl transport.
